Three Sides Project

  1. Ice-Breaker
Plot Summary

In summary, the plot is driven by a pirate who loots a small town in which he is unaware that the abnormal inhabitants are a product of radioactive mutations. He vlogs this experience in a mock-umentary style whereby he eventually comes to the realisation that he must flee the town or he himself will mutate. However, he finds this challenging as the inhabitants have unconsciously claimed him as their king so refuse to let hm go. Nonetheless, the pirate managers to escape yet he unknowingly brings a mutated stowaway. Hence, it can be implied that he ultimately mutates himself. The storyline fundamentally address the rapid progression of the deterioration of the environment and its global scale effect.

Concept Environment Designs

When designing the environment of the small town, I wanted it to feel like there was a lot of open space in the centre but the houses are relatively cramped together, inducing this sense of hollowness. The composition was thoughtfully made to make the viewer feel isolated, engulfed by the surrounding houses. Moreover, the progression of grey to green tones is intended to show the worsening state of the radioactive environment. The minimal tones also play a role in making the place feel more isolated/ abandoned as well as ominous, cohering with the storyline.

2. Three sides Project: Moodboard

The mood-board is heavily inspired by the ethereal and gothic characteristics of cathedrals. Using this as the foundation, I derived two potential environment ideas. The first being as a cool toned royal manor and the second being a fantasy based apothecary home using a warm toned palette. Both ideas are driven by the fundamental stylings and form of gothic cathedrals. While I am fond of both ideas I feel the apothecaries home holds a stronger narrative. However, I like the cool toned palette more as it induces a strong ominous mood, hence I am going to experiment with fusing both these elements in some concept sketches. I’m also considering adding a purple tone to this palette to maintain that underlying sense of fantasy to the apothecary home.
